Board of Directors
Tom Allen, President – Tom Allen has been associated with Children’s Cancer Community since 2002 — first as the beneficiary of CCC’s support as the father of a child with cancer and then serving on the board of directors. Tom’s daughter, Kyra Grace, was diagnosed with ALL in February, 2ooo and was treated at Children’s Hospital Oakland. She is now out of treatment and dealing with more ordinary kid issues — school, summer vacation, getting together with friends. – Email
Eileen Ruggeri-Coccia, Vice President – Eileen, a native Sonoman and fine art dealer and appraiser first became involved with Children’s Cancer Community over eight years ago when her sixteen year old daughter, Christina Swanson, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph node system. “Through CCC my family was able to find the emotional support and resources to help us through this tumultuous time. Three years after Christina’s cancer treatment I joined the board of directors eager to give back the much needed support we had received from CCC just a few years earlier”. Christina is now “cancer free” living in New York and pursuing a career as a comedy writer. – Email
Lynda Adams, Secretary/Treasurer – Lynda Adams joined CCC in July 2007. “I saw a publication in the Press Democrat highlighting the accomplishments of various non-profits in Sonoma County. When I read about CCC and how they provided support for kids with cancer and for their families as well, it had a very personal connection for me. We had traveled a similar road a few years earlier when our son was diagnosed with melanoma, a malignant form of skin cancer. Having the chance to meet with other families who were sharing some of the same experiences would have been welcomed. I became involved with CCC to ensure that the support, services and good work CCC provides will continue for all families who seek our assistance getting through this.” Lynda Adams is the VP/Branch Manager at Exchange Bank at their St. Francis Office in Santa Rosa. – Email
Executive Director Emeritus (1999-2011)
Marty Close, Executive Director - Marty Close was invited by founders Michelle Bertrand and Steve Webster to the first support group meeting in June 1997. A founding Board member along with his wife Kit, he has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and President. He served as the Executive Director since 1999. Marty has experienced cancer in his family – his Dad, brother, a niece (age 3) and sister-in-law. His wife Kit is now a 3-year cancer survivor! Marty lived in Sonoma for 26 years, and is now a resident of Cordelia (Fairfield). He looks forward to the day when there is no more childhood cancer, and Children’s Cancer Community can just keep their Memorial Scholarship program, and shut down all other services for a lack of need!
